What Are Weight Loss Injections?

Ozempic and Mounjaro are prescription-only injectable medications originally developed to manage type 2 diabetes. They are part of a class of drugs known as GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists.

These medications are now widely used off-label to support medically supervised weight loss in clients with BMI over 27 (with health concerns) or over 30.

How Do They Work?

Both Ozempic (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) mimic the action of natural hormones that:

Who is Suitable for Weight Loss Injections?

Have a BMI over 30, or over 27 with weight-related health concerns (e.g. PCOS, pre-diabetes, insulin resistance)
Have struggled with conventional dieting or exercise regimes
Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
Are under the care of a qualified prescriber
Have no contraindications such as thyroid disease, pancreatitis or certain gastrointestinal conditions

A medical consultation is mandatory before starting treatment. These injections are prescription-only medicines (POMs) and are only offered if clinically appropriate.
